When the Metrocab Owners Club opened its membership to include all Licensed Cab Drivers I enrolled as number 2 of the new London Cab Drivers Club and was invited to sit on the new committee. One of the first things to do was to re-name the club newspaper Metro Owners News. I suggested that the one thing we all had in common was the Badge we wear and suggested it should be named “THE BADGE”. We became very militant, especially at night. Had a few fights with touts and
forced the PCL to install new ranks such as the Dover Street Wine Bar. I went onto get elected to the LTDA board of management and after a few months proposed a vote of NO CONFIDENCE in the Chairman Geof Kaley. Other members of the board were also employees of Computer Cab so with Geof also being it’s Managing Director, the vote went his way and I resigned immediately. Lung Cancer took over in 2010 and my badge was returned, after 46 years.
It’s great to see that there still exists a militant LCDC and the continuance of THE BADGE.
