Tfl / Leon Daniels non Meeting Today

mike brownDear Grant,

I am really looking forward to working with you to keep London’s taxi trade special and so I am sorry you chose not to come to the meeting we had arranged today

We are all agreed that London will always need a strong and buoyant licensed cab trade. I am personally committed to making that a reality.

I fully appreciate that the trade is very concerned about how things have gone in the recent past.   We have a new Mayor and we will deliver for him as we have done for his predecessors.  This Mayor has made it clear that he wants a rock solid future for the cab trade. Everyone on my team wants this too.

It seems to me that there is an opportunity now to act to secure a thriving cab trade into the future. I believe there is a chance for a fresh start on a progressive agenda that deals with ever-rising customer expectations and the advance of new technology.

As you know we have led the legal challenge opposing access to bus lanes by private hire vehicles. Recent meetings Leon Daniels led with Government officials have seen us seeking powers from Government to limit Private Hire numbers and to get legislation to ban pedicabs.

We have other areas to explore with you too. We may, for example, be able to open up some more bus lanes to taxis. We need to discuss how we do even more effective enforcement. And I want to examine jointly with you how we can assist the industry in keeping pace with rapidly changing technology.

I am very keen to discuss these and any other areas you suggest with you in person. And I want to hear your concerns directly.

We would like to hold a meeting with you so that we can plan to cement the future of London’s fine licensed taxi service at the heart of London’s transport network.

Yours sincerely

Mike Brown

Dear Mike,

Thank you for your email, however I am very disappointed that you saw fit not to comment on the emails published in the latest issue of the ‘ Badge ‘. Leon Daniel’s relationship with both the Government and Uber gives the trade great concern that he is able to carry out his position as Surface Transport Director with the judgement and impartiality that this position within TFL requires.

Regards,

Grant
